Well Kept Books

Welcome to Well Kept Books, Specialist CIS Bookkeeping, VAT & MTD Support - Without the Stress

Hi! I’m Sally Ferguson, and I’ve got you under my wing!

I’ve been a bookkeeper since 2001, and with years of experience, top-level qualifications and full HMRC authorisation behind me, there’s very little in the world of accounts that I haven’t dealt with.

I specialise in monthly CIS bookkeeping for small limited companies, sole traders and tax support for CIS sub-contractors, working alongside your accountant (or introducing one if needed), so your finances stay organised, compliant and ready for whatever HMRC throws at you next, so you can get on and do your work!

I take real pride in my accuracy and diligence, and when those dreaded brown envelopes land, for me, it’s not a reason to panic.

Need Help with Your CIS Bookkeeping and Tax Support?

Bookkeeping Services

Monthly CIS Bookkeeping

If you run a construction limited company and want your finances handled properly without the stress, I offer straightforward, fixed-fee bookkeeping designed specifically for construction businesses. From CIS and VAT to day-to-day bookkeeping and payroll, I keep everything accurate, compliant and ready for your accountant, so nothing slips through the cracks.

CIS Subbie Tax Rebates

If computers, apps and accounting software leave you cold, this is built for you. I work with CIS subcontractors who want their tax handled properly without confusing systems, endless logins or feeling daft for asking questions. You can send your paperwork in whatever way suits you, I’ll make sure every allowable expense is claimed and your CIS rebate is done correctly, quickly and fully HMRC-compliant.

Well Kept Bookkeeping

Bookkeeping is the backbone of any business, regardless of what software companies may claim, and one wrong click by someone untrained can quickly leave your accounts in a mess with HMRC ready to pounce on any errors, so if your accountant is not handling your day-to-day books, the responsibility sits firmly with you to ensure everything is done correctly.

What Can You Expect From Working With Me?

When you work with me, you get someone who actually picks up the phone, answers your messages and doesn’t leave you hanging for days wondering what’s going on with your accounts.

I work quickly, accurately and with as little fuss as possible, keeping you in the loop without drowning you in jargon or spreadsheets that make your eyes glaze over. If there’s a problem, I’ll tell you; if there’s something that needs sorting, I’ll get it done; and if HMRC decide to start playing games, I’ll be the one dealing with them, not you.

Most of all, you’ll get that lovely feeling of knowing everything is finally under control, and that your finances are being handled by someone who genuinely cares about getting it right.

Why Choose Me As Your Bookkeeper?

Because I’ve been doing this for decades, I know every trick in the book (and all the mistakes people make before they come running to me). I’ve worked with tiny side hustles, busy subbies, seasoned sole traders and growing small businesses, and I treat every client with the same level of care, with no judgement, no lectures, just proper support.

I’m fully qualified, fully authorised with HMRC and completely unflappable, even when someone brings me a carrier bag of receipts and three years of unopened brown envelopes.

If you want someone reliable, honest, experienced and genuinely on your side, then I’m exactly the person you want keeping your books.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I really need a bookkeeper if I’m using modern software myself?

Yes! You can use software, but having it doesn’t guarantee it’s done right. One wrong code, one incorrect VAT claim or mis-applied expense and you could end up in hot water with HM Revenue & Customs. A trained bookkeeper like myself ensures everything is recorded correctly, compliant, and ready for tax time.

Ideally as often as your business activity warrants, at the very mimum at least monthly. For many small businesses, it’s better to have it done weekly, even daily, so you always know where you stand and avoid last-minute scrambling.

Absolutely. In fact, that’s often the best setup. As your bookkeeper, I’ll keep the day-to-day records clean and organised; your accountant then uses those clean records to advise, file the year-end returns and do the bigger strategic work. It’s not a question of one or the other, it’s about us working together.

You’re not alone, many business owners find themselves in that position. I can step in, work with HMRC (as your authorised agent), appeal penalties where possible, catch up the outstanding returns and bring everything back into order so you can sleep properly again. This is one of my specialisms.

Yes! Big changes are coming. For example, from April 2026 many self-employed taxpayers and landlords will need to use HMRC-approved software and may face more frequent reporting, not just one annual tax return. It’s more reason why having someone experienced on your side is a smart move.

My aim is transparent, fair and predictable fees, no surprise bills, no hidden extras. I provide a full service: bookkeeping, tax-return preparation (for sole traders, subbies, landlords), CIS specialist work, HMRC agent support. If things are urgent, behind or complex, we’ll clearly look at the scope and agree on what needs doing up-front.

Get in touch for a free, no obligation consultation.

If you’re thinking about getting some proper help with your books, your tax returns or a looming HMRC issue, just fill in the form on the right, call me or drop me an email asking for a no-obligation consultation and we’ll go from there.

I’ll take a quick look at what you need, give you an honest price, and explain exactly what’s involved, no pressure, no surprises and definitely no sales spiel.

Whether it’s a small job, a big job or a bit of a mess you’ve been avoiding for far too long, I’m more than happy to talk it through and point you in the right direction.
